Ceci Maher, executive director of Person-to-Person, praised Near & Far Aid has generously given much aid to the program.

P2P provides emergency services, scholarship and campership to low-income Fairfield County residents so they may become more self-sufficient. P2P is volunteer-based, and was founded in 1968.

“This is a significant award, because the Emergency Assistance Program is at the core of our service offering, providing food, clothing, financial assistance, crisis counseling and referrals to our clients,” Maher said.

Near & Far Aid is a volunteer fundraising and granting organization. It helps Fairfield County residents who are in poverty by funding programs that are in place to help them. The group has given more than $13 million to various agencies since 2000.

“We take great pride in the work we do and endeavor to draw greater attention to poverty in Fairfield County, which will result in better funding for programs that address this issue,” Near & Far Aid President Bitsy Higgins said.

Maher said Fairfield County is one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, but there are still people who face great financial challenges.

“We are grateful for the continuing commitment and support of Near & Far Aid, which enables us to extend our services to meet the need in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton.”
