DARIEN, Conn. – Darien student Anne Melich won first place in the Connecticut State Daughters of the American Revolution fifth-grade essay contest.
Melich, the daughter of Allision and Greg Melich, is a student at Ox Ridge School and was honored as Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter DAR Essay winner at a chapter reception in February. Her essay was automatically entered into the state level contest.
With more than 45 DAR Chapters in Connecticut, Melich’s essay faced stiff competition. Her essay, titled “A Colonial Family’s Reaction to the Stamp Act: A Sleepless Night in 1765,” talks about the events that eventually led to the Revolutionary War.
Essay topics are assigned nationwide, and Melich’s essay will now be entered into the Northeast Regional Society Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest.
She and her family were guests of the Darien DAR Chapter at the state Daughters of the American Revolution 123rd State Conference luncheon where Melich received a certificate and pin. The event was at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott where GWR Regent Katherine Love and registrar/treasurer Karen Polett represented the local chapter.
