Darien Tree Conservancy Announces Annual Photo Contest

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Tree Conservancy of Darien, a nonprofit established to preserve and enhance the wooded resources of Darien, is holding its third annual photo contest, Celebration of Trees, with an opening reception on Friday, March 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.at the Darien Nature Center.

As part of its objective of raising awareness of the value of trees in the community, Tree Conservancy of Darien hopes to inspire contestants to capture the beauty of the majestic, historic, attractive and unusual trees in Darien.

Residents or those who work in Darien are encouraged to take photos now or to use recent photos of trees in Darien for submission to the contest.

Photos should be taken within the past two years, can be in black-and-white or color, and must be 8 by 10 inches in size.

Photographs can be submitted for the contest at the Darien Nature Center, 120 Brookside Road, from Thursday, Feb. 26, to Saturday, Feb. 28, during normal hours of operation: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from  9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration is $15 for adults and $10 for students, with a limit of three entries per person and one per category.

Photos will be matted and displayed at the Darien Nature Center from March 7 to April 10 and will be judged by Nancy McTague Stock and Bill Taufic.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Last year’s photo contest drew close to 100 entries from participants of all ages, with winners in 10 categories. The juried show will include ribbons for adults,
