Darien resident Lisa Koorbusch became involved with the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut because her mother suffers from the disease.
"I am working hard to increase awareness about the association and the Walk in Darien,” Koorbusch said.
It has been in a gradual decline for the past eight years for her mother, while living at Maplewood at Darien. Koorbusch has volunteered with the organization for the past three years, participating in many events.
Amy Silva-Magalhaes, executive director of Maplewood at Strawberry Hill, has volunteered as a member of the Walk event committee for the past two years.
“I walk in the hope that my children’s children will have a cure for Alzheimer’s,” Silva-Magalhaes said.
This year, she was instrumental in organizing the inaugural Paint the Town Purple event recently held held in Darien as well as planning the recent Darien Kick-Off event at the Andrew Stefanou Salon & Spa.
The Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Oct 4 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. To register for the Fairfield County event, visit alz.org/ct.
Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, the event has 183 teams and 800 walkers who have raised $135,776. Event donations will be accepted through December 15, 2015 and can be made online. There are a number of Fairfield County residents who are critical to the event’s success.
