The 1 p.m. service will be followed by a reception. Gibson's sons Jonathan and Stephen will be leading the service. The church will be dedicating its new front entrance steps and patio in recognition of Gibson's 36 years of service to Calvary and to the town of Darien.

Gibson, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., attended Columbia Bible College in Columbia, S.C., and completed his doctor of ministry degree in counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary in 1993.

In 1974, he and his family moved to Darien, where he spent 36 years serving as the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church and ministering to the community of Darien. He preached his last sermon Nov. 7, 2010, to his congregation before retiring with his wife, Irene, to Williamsburg, Va. He died there April 17.
