He was one two members of Westchester Cadet Squadron 1 of the Civil Air Patrol who were placed on the squadron’s U.S. Air Force Academy Honor Roll in recognition of their appointments to the Service Academy. The two members are Cadet Lt. Col. Alexander J. Presley of Greenwich and Cadet Staff Sgt. Liam Serota of Riverdale, N.Y.
Presley joined CAP five years ago and has studied aerospace education, learned leadership skills, become physically fit, developed his character, and participated in squadron activities. He is at the threshold of earning the highest award in the cadet program, the General Carl A. Spaatz Award, which will include a promotion to the grade of cadet colonel.
An excellent scholar and active in extracurricular activities, Presley has also been active in the Cadet Advisory Council and has served in staff positions at the annual Leadership Encampments.
Serota joined CAP two years ago while attending the Abraham Joshua Heschel School. Interested in aviation from an early age, Serota began volunteering at The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Long Island and has taken private flying lessons for the past two years. He aspires to become a fighter pilot and to work in the aircraft design industry. He is also an active member in the Soldier’s Angels Adopt-A-Soldier program, a volunteer organization that supports troops overseas.
The Squadron meets on Fridays for training and activities at the Legion Hall at 40 Bell Road in Scarsdale, N.Y. Young people ages 12 to 18 are welcome to join as cadets, and adults 18 and older may join and train to become officers in the CAP program. Visit www.westcadets.org for more information.
