Free Depression Screenings Offered For Darien Residents On Thursday

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Free confidential screenings will be available on Thursday throughout Fairfield County for National Depression Screening Day.

To help identify people who are at risk of depression, healthcare centers, community services and colleges throughout Fairfield County will offer free, confidential screenings for depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder on Thursday and other dates in October, as part of National Depression Screening Day, according to a press release. Screenings are coming to Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Monroe, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport and Wilton.

"Depression and anxiety affect 1 in 4 Americans in any given year—virtually someone in every household," representatives said in the press release. "Although these illnesses are common at all ages, from children through senior citizens, they often go unrecognized or untreated, leading to family stress, loss of productivity, and at times even the ultimate tragedy, suicide. However, when diagnosed and treated appropriately, people can and do recover."

Screening sites will provide "confidential, brief screenings as a first step in identifying people in need of services," according to the release.

Residents interested in learning more about the screening dates are asked to call 2-1-1 or visit the Healthy Minds website for time and date details.
