The Depot's annual Wrap Up will conclude Tuesday. The volunteers at the teen center have been busily wrapping presents since Saturday, with all money raised going to support the Depot's many activities for Darien youths.
Program Director Janice Marzano estimates that they have wrapped about 600 gifts so far this year.
"We've been extremely busy. There's been a very steady stream of people," Marzano said. Each shift has had about 20 students wrapping presents, with people bringing in an average of 30 gifts. Marzano said the students have been working very hard during the past few days. "The kids are awesome."
The Wrap Up event is popular among the kids at the Depot. They blast Christmas music and joke around while wrapping the piles of boxes that people drop off.
"We've had a lot of customers. It's been very active, but it's fun. Everyone plays music and we have a lot of fun doing it," said Maddie Cush, a senior and co-president of the Student Governing Board. "We always do a good job, and it helps make life easier for people during this chaotic season."
"We've been really busy this year. We're like Santa's elves," said Sarishka Desai, a junior. She said the atmosphere is a fun one, and people should drop off their gifts for the last day of the event. "We're quick, and all the money goes to the Depot."
Bring your gifts down to the Depot between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday to take advantage of the last day of the Wrap Up. The minimum donation to get your gifts wrapped is $20.
