DARIEN, Conn. The Darien YMCA may be undergoing construction , but that's not stopping Holly Pond School from hosting its yearly celebration of fall-themed activities for children there. The 15th annual Darien Family Fun Day will be held indoors at the Y next Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The event for pre-school and elementary aged children is Holly Pond's largest fundraiser. Each year, larger and larger crowds have flocked to the YMCA for pony rides, a magic show, a bouncy castle, crafts, face painting, pumpkin decorating, baked goods and a silent auction of gift baskets. This year will also feature bowling and karate lessons from a skilled instructor. Holly Pond parents organize and staff the event, as well as create the themed gift baskets for the silent auction. The baskets are designed to appeal to a range of ages and include themes such as princesses, cars and trucks, sports, American Girl dolls, birthday parties, date night, mommy spa day and activities for dads. The baskets will be on display in the Ys front lobby before the event. Bidding will begin Oct. 10. Tickets for Family Fun Day are $25 a family.
