Darien Man Wins Paddle With A Paddle To Benefit AmeriCares

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A total of 25 teams hit the platform tennis courts at the Country Club of New Canaan for a Battle with a Paddle, a tournament held to raise funds to support Stamford-based AmeriCares.

Colin White of Darien and Rob Blosio Jr. of New Canaan defeated New Canaan residents R.P. Beuerlein, Nick Bognon and Brian O’Hara for the title.

Eliza Kontulis and Robbie Bland of New York City took home the consolation prize. Players raised more than $7,000 for AmeriCares health programs worldwide.

“Our goal was to energize supporters in a community where AmeriCares has deep roots, and we exceeded our expectations,” said Holly Donaldson of AmeriCares. “We are thrilled with the success of the inaugural event and hope to make it an annual competition.”

Donaldson, a New Canaan native, organized the tournament, which was held March 7, along with AmeriCares Young Leaders Rob Blosio and Sara Krivoshik.

AmeriCares was founded in New Canaan in 1982 by longtime residents Bob and Leila Macauley. Over the years, the organization has grown to help people in crisis in 164 countries with its global health programs and medical aid deliveries.
