DARIEN, Conn. Children in the musical theater class at the Darien Arts Center rehearsed for 19 weeks in preparation for Saturday's production of "Oz," a musical based on "The Wizard of Oz." The production garnered a full house in the center's Weatherstone Studio. All the favorites from "The Wizard of Oz," including Toto and the Tinman, took the stage, along with some new characters written exclusively for "Oz."
The students demonstrated stage presence, with a gymnastics-performing Scarecrow and a Dorothy with vocal talent, along with a clear dedication to the show. Director Chris Smalley said the group was remarkably hardworking and dedicated. After applause and the flashes of proud parent's cameras, the young actors took a well-deserved bow and joined the cheering in celebration of their hard work.
