The Port Chester High School senior earned herself the title of the 2012 Westchester Teen Idol on Saturday night after singing “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret.”

Veltri, 17, also sang “Astonishing” from the musical “Little Women.” She will receive a grand prize that's worth about $2,000, including a voice lesson and professional head shots.

The four teens joining Veltri in the top five places were Darien, Conn., resident E.J. Couloucoundis, Chappaqua resident Max Schoetz, West Harrison resident Rachel Stagg and Pleasantville resident Emily Ultan.

Veltri performed in last year's Teen Idol competition but lost to Harrison resident Cayla Pettinato.

Twenty-five finalists from the tri-state area competed at the Irvington Town Hall Theater to be the next Teen Idol. The competition was a fundraiser for PMT Productions, a musical theater company that puts on productions throughout Westchester.

Teens between the ages of 13 and 19 performed pop hits, Broadway classics and even their own compositions in front of three celebrity judges: John Treacy Egan, Ben Hartley and Mary Bracken Phillips. This was the seventh annual show.

About 140 teens auditioned for the competition at the Yorktown Stage in late September and early October, PMT Productions president Ray Arrucci said.

Emcee Kacey Morabito-Greene praised the competitors' attitudes during the show.

“The atmosphere backstage is amazing,” she said. “The performers are all supportive of each other. There's a great deal of camaraderie and team playing and connection making.”
