In May, a preview reception was held, offering an evening of cocktails and cheer. Attendees were the first to travel down memory lane as they viewed original artwork, sketches and layouts from favorite picture book classics. Then, after the town parade on Sunday, May 25, spectators extended their fun with a peek at Rowayton’s newest attraction, bringing back fond recollections, and delighting children of all ages.

The Rowayton Historical Society thanks the University of Connecticut’s Thomas J. Dodd Research Center for loans from its archives and special collections, as well as the sponsors who made the exhibition possible. The sponsors include HarperCollins, Darien Rowayton Bank, Fairfield County Bank, Accent Framing, Rockwell Framing, Spiked Seltzer, Community Cooperative Nursery School, United Church Nursery School, Five Mile River Nursery School and The Ginger Man of Norwalk.

"Rowayton and the Purple Crayon: Celebrating the Creative Culture of 1950s Rowayton" will be on display through Thanksgiving.

The Rowayton Historical Society is located at 177 Rowayton Ave. in Rowayton. Exhibition hours are from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, noon to 3 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays. (Closed for the month of August.) General admission is $5, free for RHS members.
