“Every Saturday is a relaxing adventure,” said Market Master (and co-founder) Lexi Gazy. “You never know what you’re going to find.”

The market has been going strong for 17 years, Gazy said. Five of the original vendors who started with the market still sell their products there, she said.

Gazy was joined at the market by Priscillia and John Woyke, longtime residents of New Canaan, who had won a “market basket” of a little bit of everything from each of the vendors.

The Woykes, who have lived in New Cannan for more than 50 years, frequently visit the market.

“It’s just a great variety,” Priscilla Woyke said. “[You can] plan your party for Sunday and get everything you need.”

Bill Anastas of the Redding-based Carrot Top Kitchens, a vendor selling fresh pickles, gazpacho and hummus, said the New Canaan market was “without a doubt” one of the busiest markets he attends. The company participates in about nine farmers markets each week, he said.

Anastas said he tries to source all of his ingredients from nearby farms and producers.

“Whatever we use — if we can get it locally, we do,” he said.

In addition to his award-winning pickles, Anastas sells lemon and garlic hummus, white truffle humus, cucumber gazpacho and turkey black bean chili.

He even brings a little bit of the farming life to his stand — miniature bales of hay that decorate his table garner much attention from visitors.

Anastas said he has many repeat customers. During his conversation with The Daily Voice many regulars stopped by his stand to get their “weekly fix.”

The summer’s farmers market is located in the Old Center School parking lot at South Avenue, Maple Street and Main Street. It is held every Saturday from April 25 to Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

When the weather gets chilly, the market doesn’t go away. The winter’s farmers market is located at the New Canaan Nature Center, 144 Oenoke Ridge Road. It's open every Tuesday from Jan. 27 through March 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
