RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Gio Alberino of Ski & Sport in Ridgefield draws from his lifetime on skis and wealth of knowledge to support local high school ski teams for an ultimate outdoor experience – all while giving back to the community.
Over the past eight years, Alberino, partner and manager at the store, has worked closely with the Ridgefield High School Ski Team and other local high school ski programs to provide donations to various fundraisers.
He said through his affiliations with the store, he has donated snowboard packages, provided door prizes and has coordinated coat drives and other fundraising events locally for Hurricane Sandy victims and other needy causes.
Most recently, Alberino worked with Catamount Ski Area to organize a trip for students.
“I really enjoy working with the high schools and it is great to see the enthusiasm of young skiers enjoying winter sports,” he said.
Alberino grew up in Wilton and began skiing when he was just 2 years old. He has always been passionate about the sport and has participated in both downhill and freestyle competitions throughout the country.
“This is my passion and I can never get enough of it,” he said.
Alberino said he was “born and raised” in the store and uses his extensive background experience and product knowledge to help his customers find exactly what they are looking for.
Alberino said there is no greater reward than having an opportunity to get to know the customer and working with them to find exactly what they want.
“It is all about people having a pleasurable outdoor experience and doing something outside,” he said.
