At the YMCA, swim lessons are offered for children as young as 6 months old in a parent/child class that provides water acclimation and a gentle start to swimming. There is also a multitude of group and private classes for preschool and school age swimmers. Adult swim lessons are also offered for the late arrival to the pool.
Swimming lessons are not only a way to ensure your child’s safety in the water, but they are also a great form of exercise. Swimming exercises all of the body’s muscle groups and is low-impact, which is beneficial to the body’s joints. Jumping in the pool for a swim is a great way for your children to maintain a healthy routine, burn off pent-up energy, and make new friends along the way.
The Darien Y’s spring session of youth swim lessons will be offered from March 16th to June 14th. Registration for the spring program session begins Tuesday, February 24th at 10:00a.m. for Darien YMCA members, and Thursday, March 5th at 10:00a.m. for non-members. For more information about getting you or your young swimmer into a class please contact Jim Matthews, Darien YMCA Aquatic Director at (203) 655-8228 ext. 1332, email yaquatics@darien-ymca.org, or visit darien-ymca.org.
