O’Malley graduated from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in German/French and nuclear engineering. Following graduation, he was commissioned as an infantry officer and deployed to Iraq from 2004-05, where he served with the First Brigade Combat Team, First Cavalry Division. For his service, O’Malley was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He was again called up as an Individual Ready Reserve to deploy to Afghanistan from 2006-08, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service.
He then attended New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where he earned a master's of business administration in finance and investment banking. He is currently employed by IBM as a consolidation manager for Global Technology Service. He previously served in the mergers and acquisition department at IBM.
O’Malley remains active in veterans’ affairs and in addition to his office in the Darien VFW, is also an officer in the Connecticut VFW. He works with America Corporate Partners, which specializes in helping veterans make the transition to the civilian workforce through mentorships, networking, resume support and job search help. He is a member of the Team Red, White and Blue, and for Team Rubicon. He lives in Stamford with his wife and daughter.
State and local officials, Darien selectmen and Darien police and fire department chiefs are all invited to the patriotic commemoration.
Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission encourages the public to attend.
