Wife of Pat Tillman To Speak at Darien Luncheon

DARIEN, Conn. – The wife of NFL safety Pat Tillman, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2004, will speak at a luncheon for the Center for Hope in Darien.

Marie Tillman’s husband turned down a multimillion-dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals to become a U.S. Army ranger. He served several tours of duty before he was killed in a friendly fire incident.

She will discuss how she found the strength to rebuild her life and become an advocate for veteran affairs. In 2004, she started the Pat Tillman Foundation , an organization dedicated to assisting veterans and military spouses.

In her forthcoming book, “The Letter: My Journey Through Love, Loss and Life,” she recounts how one of her husband’s final letters helped her overcome her grief after his death.

The luncheon will take place May 8 at 11 a.m. at the Country Club of Darien. All proceeds will go to the Center for Hope and the Den for Grieving Kids, which offer critical illness and bereavement support for residents of lower Fairfield County.
