YWCA Darien/Norwalk Names 2015 Women Of Distinction

DARIEN, Conn. – The YMCA Darien/Norwalk plans to honor six community members at the upcoming sixth annual Women of Distinction Awards and Luncheon.

The 2015 honorees, who will be celebrated at the luncheon to be held Thursday, May 7, are Sandy Nielsen Baumann, Susan Delaney, Dr. Josephine Velazquez Rucquoi, Alicia Sillars and Jane Yezzi.

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk will also honor Merlyn Tejada as a Young Woman of Distinction; that award is given to a woman under 21 years old.

"Women frequently work behind the scenes to forge stronger families and communities," said Ellen Bay, co-chairwoman of the event, in a press release.

"We at the YWCA are grateful for the opportunity to shine a light on these women and celebrate the differences they make every single day.”

The Women of Distinction luncheon will be held at Woodway Country Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“The 2015 Women of Distinction honorees embody the meaning of selfless service,” said event co-chairwoman, Louisa Stead, in a press release.

“Through their generosity and dedication to their communities they are true leaders and role models."
