FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After digging out from more than a foot of snow that fell across Fairfield County in Thursday's nor'easter, residents need to prepare for more this weekend. But relief may come next week with some warmer temperatures.
Friday afternoon's sun and wind will give way to clouds and temperatures in the low 20s by evening, with a chance of overnight snow and black ice on the roads, the National Weather Service said.
Snow is likely by morning, mainly between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday with the quick-moving storm. New accumulation of 2 to 3 inches is possible with an 80 percent chance of snow showers. Some areas could see up to 5 inches of new snow.
It will be a deep freeze Saturday night, as temperatures will dip into the low teens with wind chill values as low as zero with winds of 15 to 17 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph. With a 50 percent chance of snow, another inch could fall in the evening.
There is a slight chance of snow flurries Sunday afternoon and evening with high temperatures in the 20s and strong winds. Night-time temperatures will dip into the single digits.
Presidents Day will be sunny with high temperatures near 25. Snow is likely after midnight. There is a 50 percent chance of snow Tuesday.
But Wednesday and Thursday will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-40s, which could begin to melt the icy snowpack.
The snow this weekend will not rival what fell during Thursday's storm. But it will not be a storm like Thursday, when snowfall topped a foot across Fairfield County. Here is a sample of snow totals from Friday morning from the National Weather Service:
- Darien: 16.8 inches
- Fairfield: 16.2 inches
- Danbury: 15.6 inches
- New Canaan: 15.3 inches
- Weston: 14.3 inches
- Norwalk: 13.5 inches
- Stamford: 13 inches
In addition, two-tenths of an inch of ice was reported at Danbury Airport on Friday, leaving a slippery coating on roads, sidewalk, cars and other surfaces.
