FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Snow and freezing rain started to taper off  in Fairfield County late in the morning Saturday as the quick-moving storm rapidly moved further east, but a new storm with the potential for substantially more snowfall could batter the area early this coming week.

A total of 6 inches of snow was reported in Norwalk at 6 a.m. Saturday, with much of the county seeing an identical or similar amount of accumulation, with the 7.8 inches reported in Darien at dawn being the highest total reported. New Canaan reported 6.5 inches, Weston 6.3 inches and Bridgeport 5.5 inches at 7 a.m.

The storm will clear up overnight and the outlook for Sunday is mostly sunny with a high near 35, but wind chills making it feel like between 15 and 25 degrees.

Fairfield could see an even more significant storm with the possibility of a slower moving Nor'easter arriving overnight Monday into most of the day Tuesday, according to some forecast models.

It is too early to predict the possible severity of the storm until the track becomes clearer.
