The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for northern Fairfield County with heavy wet snowfall predicted to impact Thanksgiving holiday travel all day Wednesday and into the evening.

The Winter Storm Watch also covers all of interior Connecticut and the lower Hudson Valley from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday.

A total of 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to accumulate in northern Fairfield County. A mix of rain and snow will change to all snow by Wednesday afternoon in the region. The storm will make driving dangerous at times with snow, sleet and ice possible.

The storm's track in southern Fairfield County is less clear, the National Weather Service said. A combination of snow, rain and wind are likely, but the amount of snow could vary. The National Weather Service's maps do call for 4 to 6 inches of snow. More is possible, the weather service said.

The weather will cooperate Tuesday as area residents prepare for the storm and for the holidays. The forecast calls for sunny skies and high in the mid-50s.

But by Tuesday evening, rain and snow will develop overnight and into Wednesday morning.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low 30s, with winds of 6 to 13 mph, producing wind chills in the 20s. Snow will begin by later morning in northern Fairfield County and by afternoon along the coastline.

Thanksgiving Day bring a slight chance of snow before 8 a.m. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high in the upper 30s and low 40s.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high in the mid-30s across Fairfield County, and temperatures dropping in the evening into the high teens and low 20s.
