The Darien Sail & Power Squadron is hosting two events to help local boaters brush up on their skills on the water. The first is a Basic Coastal Boating Course, which stars Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Noroton Yacht Club. The seven-session course will provide boaters with confidence that they can handle their boats, find their way to destinations and get home safely. The course costs $95, payable at the first class. Those interested can register online or by calling 203-656-1129.
The second event is the FLARE-UP!, which will be held Saturday, May 14, at Weed Beach. Boaters will be able to fire marine safety flares and fire extinguishers, with instructions by the squadron. Bring expired flares and fire extinguishers to the beach. Donated flares who be supplied to those who need them. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts until 11:30 a.m.
