The first change is that the library will no longer levy overdue fees against seniors when they return books or other items late.

“Seniors are some of our most loyal library patrons,” Stephanie Anderson, head of reader services, said in a statement. “Since they are least likely to return books late anyway, we realized it was a change that would have a minor impact on the library and potentially a major impact for some senior patrons. Overall, we felt it was a good way to say thank you to some of the library’s biggest fans.”

In addition, the library has moved the large-type collection to the first floor, improved reading lamps in the area and upgraded furniture.

The library has created a special monthly program series called Senior Moments.

The Darien Library is at 1441 Post Road.
