Darien Maps Show the Way to Shop & Dine

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien residents and visitors will soon have an easier time finding all of the stores and restaurants in town. The Darien Chamber of Commerce is adding two “Shop & Dine” signs with maps of all the businesses in town.

Darien's businesses are spread throughout the town and concentrated in three different shopping districts – Noroton Heights, the Goodwives Shopping Center and the central business district on Post Road. The chamber wanted to find a way to help people navigate their way around town and find whatever businesses they were looking for.

“We thought it would be a good thing to have, particularly during the Sidewalk Sales,” said Chamber President Carol Wilder-Tamme. The three-day sales event is held during the summer, and many Darien businesses participate.

One of the elevated ground signs will be located on Post Road in front of the Dunkin’ Donuts, while the other will be on Heights Road in front of Fabricare Cleaners. These two locations were chosen for their proximity to Darien’s two train stations, Wilder-Tamme said. They signs will help visitors unfamiliar with the town find their way around.

The maps will be designed by Cybersidewalks , which did the chamber’s website and created a similar map for New Canaan. With new businesses constantly coming into Darien, Wilder-Tamme said the chamber would likely update the map twice a year.

The signs, which will be colored "Darien blue," will also include brochures with information about the town. The chamber considered adding a QR code to the map that visitors could scan with their smartphones, which would take them to the chamber’s website with the most up-to-date information, Wilder-Tamme said.
