DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien emergency officials are making preparations in the event that Hurricane Joaquin hits the area, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said.
"The Town of Darien Emergency Management Team, along with our state and regional partners, are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Joaquin," Stevenson said in an update Thursday afternoon. "As of 2 p.m. Joaquin was a Category 4 hurricane located near the central Bahamas. The track and intensity of this storm is changeable but current predictions are for the storm to impact our area sometime between Monday evening into Tuesday."
"High tide is expected Monday evening between 6-7 p.m. and may further intensify the impact of the storm. Please follow state and local media storm coverage for the most up to the minute information. We recommend you begin preparing for storm conditions."
Stevenson urged residents to visit the Town of Darien website for preparedness updates and to sign up for CodeRed Emergency announcements.
The Emergency Operations Team will provide more updates as it receives more accurate storm information. The next update will be at noon on Friday.
