Darien police broke up a party on Brookside Drive on Saturday night and arrested a teen on a charge of providing alcohol to minors. They were alerted to the party by a call to the underage drinking tip line.
When officers arrived and spoke to the teen who lives there, he said his parents were out of town for the weekend. He was hosting a small party, which had gotten out of control. He had tried to get people to leave, but guests ended up going outside and making noise. Police entered the house to see whether any teens needed medical attention and found nine people hiding upstairs in closets and other rooms.
Officers also found many beer cans, a beer pong setup, an unopened 30 rack of beer, two half-drunk bottles of vodka and trash cans filled with many empty beer cans. Parents were contacted to pick up their children, and the teen who hosted the party was arrested. He will appear in court May 3.

Employees at Patriot National Bank alerted police that somebody has withdrawn nearly $31,000 from an elderly woman's account over the last six months. They became suspicious after a series of $500 ATM withdrawals from the account at the branch and at People's United Bank. Police said the case was under investigation.
A dentist at Darien Family Dental Care told police that somebody took a check for $931.50. The check had been written to a temporary employee who was working there, but it had to be reissued for tax reasons. The dentist left the original check on his desk but discovered Friday that it was missing and had been cashed. The temp worker denied cashing it. Police said the case was under investigation.
