DARIEN, Conn. Michael Lynch has been hired as the new director of facilities and operations for Darien schools, the third person to hold the position in the past year. Paul Engemann died in November, and Hans Otto resigned after a larceny arrest.Lynch was director of facilities and operations for the White Plains Public Schools for 18 years. In that job, he was responsible for all building operations, oversight of the custodial and maintenance staff, field and turf maintenance, and coordination of construction projects.During that time, Lynch directed over $200 million of capital construction and renovation projects, including new buildings, upgraded HVAC, electric, plumbing and alarm systems, and asbestos abatement. He also initiated many energy saving projects.Lynch has been active in his community as well. He is a member of the South Salem Fire Department, where he served four terms as fire chief and three as fire department president. He has been a member of the Katonah-Lewisboro Facilities Planning Committee, co-chair of the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, and Town Council representative.Email Casey Donahue at cdonahue@thedailydarien.com.
