Darien Assessor Anthony J. Homicki sent notices to senior homeowners over the age of 65 saying they may be eligible for tax credits on their real estate property taxes under the Circuit Breaker, town program or Elderly Tax Deferral. Applications are being accepted now through May 15.
Homeowners who were age 65 by Dec. 31, 2013, and qualify within the income limits, are asked to come into the Assessor’s Office and apply by May 15. To be eligible for credit, income must not exceed $50,600 for married couples or $43,100 for single persons.
Documentation of proof such as a copy of a 2013 Social Security 1099 form and a copy of a 2013 Income Tax Return is needed.
Those with questions, including questions about the Elderly Tax Deferral option, are asked to call the Assessor’s Office at 203-656-7310.
