Darien Seniors May Be Eligible For Property Tax Relief

DARIEN, Conn. - Darien senior homeowners over the age of 65 may be eligible for tax credits on their real estate property tax, according to Tax Assessor Anthony Homicki.

Applications are now being accepted for credits under the Circuit Breaker Program, Town Program or Elderly Tax Deferral. Applications must be filed by May 15. To be eligible, homeowners must be 65 years old on or before December 31, 2012, and have an income not exceeding $49,900 for married couples and $42,500 for single persons.

All income, including Social Security, must be reported. Documentation of proof, such as your 2012 Social Security 1099 form and your 2012 income tax return, is needed.
