DARIEN, Conn. Darien police suspect an employee is responsible for stealing $2,700 from a safe in Trader Joe's. The manager of the store came in at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday and noticed the money was missing from the safe.
The money, a combination of $5, $10 and $20 bills, was last seen at 9:50 the previous night, when it had been counted and placed in the safe. The seal that had been placed over the door of the safe was found in a trashcan when the robbery was discovered.
A number of employees would have had access to the store during the time the robbery took place and several have the combination to the safe, police said. There was no sign of forced entry, and there were no security cameras in the area. Police say the matter was still under investigation.
