With the freezing temperatures, the Red Cross is encouraging residents to stay inside as much as possible to keep warm. But if you have to go outside, keep as much of your skin covered as possible in the frigid weather.

The Red Cross also offer tips on how to recognize the symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite so that help can be found sooner.

  • Symptoms of hypothermia can be confusion, dizziness, exhaustion and severe shivering
  • Frostbite warning signs are gray, white or yellow skin discoloration, numbness, waxy feeling skin
