First County Bank Gives Grants To Darien Charities

DARIEN, Conn. – The First County Bank Foundation has awarded $41,500 in grants to nine nonprofits in Darien and New Canaan. The money will be used for emergency assistance, music and art, transportation and other services for families and children.

The foundation recently gave $2,500 to the Community Fund of Darien to address human services and needs throughout lower Fairfield County as well as $5,000 to Person-to-Person’s Emergency Assistance Fund to provide food, clothing, loans, linens, baby clothing and holiday programming to those in need.

The foundation also gave $5,000 to the Tiny Miracles Foundation’s Financial Assistance Program and $5,000 to the Town of Darien Firefighters Foundation to improve the community safety standards via equipment purchases, training and property improvement activities.

In New Canaan, $5,000 was given to Arts for Healing to provide music and art therapy for special needs individuals. A total of $7,500 was given to Getabout , which provides transportation to special needs individuals and seniors.

The foundation also gave $7,500 to the Horizons Student Enrichment Program at New Canaan Country School for summer programs for students, $2,500 to the New Canaan Community Foundation to help other nonprofits, and $1,500 to the New Canaan Group Home for kitchen improvements.

“Experience tells us that causes like these have the power to expand understanding and deepen community involvement,” said Rey Giallongo, president of the First County Bank Foundation and chairman and CEO of First County Bank. “Our goal at the foundation is to help these organizations and others like them build the next generation’s ability to live and work productively in our communities. We look forward to seeing the results of these agencies’ work benefit young and old alike.”

The First County Bank Foundation was started in 2001 in honor of the bank’s 150th anniversary. Since then, it has awarded 589 individual grants, totaling more than $4.8 million. The foundation had a record year in 2011, when it awarded 108 grants totaling more than $591,000.
