Flash Flood Watch Remains For Darien

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A flash flood watch remains in effect for southern Fairfield County from noon through late Friday night, May 16, according to the National Weather Service.

A slow-moving cold front will bring heavy rains to Fairfield County on Friday afternoon. A total of 1 to 2 inches of rain are expected, with localized amounts of up to 3 inches possible, the Weather Service said.

A huge system that soaked the Midwest and Appalachia earlier this week is moving into the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest rains are expected to coincide with high tide on Long Island Sound, which could exacerbate coastal flooding.

Residents are reminded to pay attention to the forecast and be prepared to take action should flooding occur. The rain is likely to turn into downpours starting Friday afternoon. Winds will pick up as well, with gusts of up to 30 mph.

The rain will likely taper off by Saturday morning, May 17, and a sunny weekend with highs in the low to mid-70s, according to the forecast.
