GOP To Rally for Kolenberg in Stamford

Organizers are calling it a Super Saturday Rally. Former gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley, former U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon and other prominent Republicans will convene at fellow Republican Bob Kolenberg's campaign headquarters to support his bid for state Senate. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 108 Bedford St., Stamford. Free parking will be available behind the building.

The rally is a kickoff for a 72-hour get-out-the-vote blitz before Tuesday's special election. Others expected to attend include former Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele, Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia, Darien First Selectman David Campbell, state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney of Fairfield, Assistant Senate Minority Leader L. Scott Frantz of Greenwich and former state Sen. Dan Debicella of Shelton.

Kolenberg, a Stamford businessman and vice chair of the city's Board of Finance, is seeking to fill the District 27 state Senate seat vacated by Andrew McDonald. McDonald left to serve in Gov. Dannel Malloy's administration. A special election has been scheduled for Feb. 22 to fill the seat in the district, which includes parts of Stamford and Darien.

Kolenberg's Democratic opponent is state Rep. Carlo Leone of Stamford. Last Sunday, Leone enjoyed heavyweight Democratic support during a rally attended by Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, state Rep. Gerald Fox III, state Treasurer Denise Nappier and other party leaders.

Green Party member Rolf Maurer is a write-in candidate. The final campaign push for Kolenberg will get under way after the rally, with the campaign knocking on doors and making phone calls to voters. Those planning to attend the event are asked to RSVP by calling 203-569-6028.
