Heavy Snow, Accidents Slow Traffic Across Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The snow was coming down fast and the traffic was moving slow Friday morning as a snowstorm continued to blow across Fairfield County.

The major highways were wet, and some snow was beginning to stick at about 8:30 a.m. Traffic was slowed on I-84 and I-95 but moving. 

Few accidents were reported, but there were some fender-benders and spinouts. 

The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported these accidents as of 8:30 a.m.:

  • An accident was reported on the northbound Merritt Parkway between Exit 44 for Black Rock Turnpike and Exit 46 for Route 59/Easton Turnpike.
  • An accident was blocking two lanes of Route 8 south at Exit 10 of the Merritt Parkway. Traffic was backed up to Exit 14 for Route 110/Howe Avenue in Shelton. 
Snow was expected to fall through until early afternoon with a Winter Weather Advisory in place until noon.

Schools were closed across Fairfield County on Friday due to the snow.
