Hackers were able to steal addresses, health histories and other personal information from approximately 19.7 million people who had been subjected to a government background check, as well as 1.8 million spouses and friends, The Times reported.

Authorities believe the attack is related to, but still separate from a breach last month that exposed information for 4.2 million federal employees, The Times said.
