DARIEN, Conn. -- Aquarion Water Co. will work on water main replacement projects on Noroton Avenue, Middlesex Road and Mansfield Avenue in Darien this summer, with work starting on Monday.
The work on Noroton Avenue from Chestnut Street to Middlesex Road will begin Monday, June 20, and is expected to be completed in four weeks. It will replace 1,000 feet of water main with 16-inch ductile iron main.
The project is an improvement plan to create a new "backbone" of water distribution for Darien.
A second project beginning Tuesday, July 5, will replace 4,000 feet of existing water main on Middlesex Road and Mansfield Avenue. Construction is expected to last until the end of August.
Customers in the affected area may experience temporary service disruptions, as well as discolored water.
Customers should refrain from washing laundry if water is discolored. They also are advised to store water in their refrigerators for drinking and cooking.
“We greatly appreciate residents’ patience during these projects,” said Dan Lawrence, Aquarion’s Director of Engineering & Planning. “We will work closely with our customers, contractors and town and state officials to coordinate the work and minimize disruption.”
Customers also may experience minor traffic delays and possible detours between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., officials said.
