REDDING, Conn. — The man whose car was hit by a train in Redding late Tuesday is recovering, a Metro-North spokesman said Wednesday.

The person, who was taken to Danbury Hospital after the incident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Metro-North spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman said.

A commuter train hit the car, which was on the tracks at the crossing at Topstone Road in Redding, which is along the Danbury Branch, she said.

Service was suspended in both directions along the Danbury Branch for over two hours after the accident at 9:10 p.m., she said. Train service was restored at about midnight.

The "unauthorized vehicle" on the tracks was hit by the 8:06 p.m. northbound train heading from South Norwalk to Danbury, Gamerman said.

The train was due in Danbury at 8:55 p.m., but all Metro-North trains were running late Tuesday due to congestion and slip-slide conditions on the wet tracks, she said.

None of the 30 people onboard the train at the time of the accident were hurt.

It was not known why the vehicle was on the tracks at the intersection just south of the West Redding train station.
