Metro-North Adjusts Train Schedule For New Year's, Bans Alcohol

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Metro-North will operate on a New Year's Eve Holiday Service schedule from Friday, Dec. 30 to Monday, Jan. 2

Metro-North trains will operate on a special New Year's Eve schedule with extra inbound late afternoon and early evening service on Saturday and "overnight" outbound trains Sunday morning.

Look for early getaway service on Friday, Dec. 30, with extra trains departing Grand Central Terminal beginning at around 1 p.m. Evening trains may be cancelled or combined due to decreased ridership, according to Metro-North.

On New Year's Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31 trains will run on a special schedule. There will be extra inbound late afternoon and early evening service and outbound  "overnight" (Dec. 31-Jan. 1) New Year's morning service.

Riders are reminded that drinking alcohol on Metro-North trains and at any Metro-North stations is banned from noon New Year's Eve until noon New Year's Day. 

Riders overnight Saturday are advised to buy their tickets in advance because early morning New Year's Day service riders will have their tickets collected prior to boarding trains at Grand Central Terminal.

Then on Sunday, Jan. 1, trains will operate on a regular Sunday schedule. 

Metro-North will observe New Year's Day on Monday, Jan. 2 when businesses and government offices are closed. Trains on Monday will operate on a Saturday schedule without the "Shoppers Specials," according to Metro-North.
