Preliminary indication are that the experienced mountain bicyclist, Steve Shafer, died of a "medical event," police said Wednesday. The death does not appear to be suspicious, police said.
His body was found at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Farrington Woods, a park that straddles the New York border on Mill Plain Road on Danbury's West Side.
He had been reported missing Monday night after he failed to return from a ride at the park on the stormy evening. His car was found in the parking lot there.
Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta had requested an all-terrain vehicle to help in the search at the nearly 200-acre park, which the city purchased in April 2010 for about $1.6 million.
Shafer's body was found in a heavily wooded area about three-quarters of a mile from the park’s main entrance, the News-Times reported. He frequently biked in the park, the News-Times said.
