Rolf Karl Liebergesell, Darien Businessman

DARIEN, Conn. – Rolf Karl Liebergesell of Darien died at Stamford Hospital on Wednesday, June 29, at the age of 78.

Born in 1932 in Osnabrück, Germany, he came to the United States in 1954 to study at Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona. He later earned an MBA at Wayne State University in Detroit. He began his career in the banking industry before working for Chrysler for more than 20 years, where he executed the first joint venture between an American and a Japanese automaker.

He worked at ITT Corp. in Belgium and at Teves, an ITT manufacturing subsidiary in Frankfurt, Germany. He became the president and CEO of Farrel Corp. in Ansonia in 1986 and retired in 2006. He also served as board director of the Licia-Albanese-Puccini Foundation, the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra and Bel Canto Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Sachi, and his four children.

A memorial service will be held at St. John Parish at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Licia-Albanese-Puccini Foundation, 8 E. 69th St., New York, NY 10021.
