After Mondays Board of Selectmen meeting, the boards members are going to be painfully aware of First Selectman Dave Campbells vacation plans. Under the new protocol approved May 3, Campbell is now required to notify all board members and the Town Administrator at least 72 hours before he leaves town. The vote also set up a rotation for the role of Acting First Selectman, with the four other members rotating alphabetically every six months.
The board first introduced the proposal in April, after Campells absence during the March thunderstorms caused some confusion. At the time, then-Acting First Selectman David Bayne and Jayme Stevenson were the only two board members in town. This caused communication problems, as three selectmen are needed for a quorum. The plan also includes guidelines for contact between members during absences.
