A man who sexually assaulted and robbed a woman at knifepoint on Reef Road as she walked home from the Fairfield train station was tracked down by officers who followed his footprints and a trail of his blood in the snow. K9 teams from the Westport Police Department and the State Police joined in the search for Michael Fontaine, who was arrested after he was found hiding in bushes on Old Post Road near Beach Road.

Two Bridgeport men arrested after an overnight burglary spree at four businesses on Howe Avenue in Shelton are suspected of committing similar crimes in Stratford and other neighboring towns, police said.

After 16 years of leading the Brookfield Police Department, Chief Robin Montgomery stepped down to enjoy his retirement. A decorated war hero — he earned the Navy Cross for valor in combat in Vietnam — Montgomery also had a long career with the FBI.

Police Chief Duane J. Lovello announced he will retire in February after 35 years with the Darien Police Department. 

A suspected drunken driver who hit and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 84 in Danbury was apprehended with the help of a witness who called 911 and followed the pickup truck as it fled on the next exit ramp, according to Connecticut State Police.

Jennifer Russell, a history teacher at John Winthrop School in Bridgeport, was honored with the Anna Keeler Award for Excellence in History and Civics Education, which is bestowed by the Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield.

D. Lish & Co., a new deli/pizza/catering spot that has opened its doors on Fairfield Beach Road, is dishing up such out-of-the-box items as a bacon cheeseburger nestled between two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and a chicken cutlet topped with mashed potatoes, corn and gravy.

A drunken man who got into a late-night argument with other diners at Curley's Diner in Stamford was stabbed after the altercation escalated, police said. A Good Samaritan who tried to intervene was also stabbed in what police called a bloody brawl. 

By the Way Bakery, a much-loved gluten-free and kosher bakery that got its start in Westchester County, N.Y., has opened in Greenwich. 

A 34-year-old Newtown man was arrested after brandishing a handgun during a road rage incident on I-84 in Waterbury, according to Connecticut State Police.

As the Electoral College voted Monday, state Rep. Bob Godfrey (D-Danbury) cast all seven of Connecticut's votes for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote in the state. But Godfrey also called for the nation to do away with the Electoral College and elect the president directly.

A drunken driver from Darien slammed into a Norwalk Police cruiser, which has its lights and sirens activated at the scene of an earlier crash, police said. The two accidents occurred about 100 yards from the Norwalk Police Station.
