Three young Stamford men were arrested last Monday on charges of marijuana possession after a routine traffic stop. Police said they saw the three driving west on Post Road at about 6 p.m. and noticed that the driver, Christian Vazquez, 19, was not wearing a seatbelt.
The car was stopped, and police detected the strong odor of marijuana. Vazquez and his passengers, Ashton Thevenin and Juan Rangel, both 19, said they had just smoked a blunt. Upon searching the car, police found another blunt, more than 29 grams of marijuana and 3.6 grams of stems. All three were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Vazquez was also charged with not wearing a seatbelt. Each posted $500 bond and were set to appear in court April 8.
Also from the police blotter:
An elderly woman allegedly stole $800 to $1,000 worth of jewelry at Beadz Boutique on Post Road last Thursday. Employees told police the woman entered the store at about 4:20 p.m. carrying a book and a purse. Surveillance video shows that she approached the counter and slipped two crystal bracelets into the book, which she then placed in her purse. She wandered around the store, grabbed a couple of other items and left. While police were canvassing the neighborhood, a man who works in a nearby store said he saw the woman entering a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Subaru.
A window at a house on Hilton Street was broken early Saturday. Residents were sleeping at 1:30 a.m. when they heard a loud crashing sound. Upon further inspection, they found that somebody had smashed three panes on a window in the front of the house. Nobody was seen, and they were unable to find the object used. An imprint of a foot was found in the soil outside, but police are not sure whether it is from the person who committed the act.
