On Oct. 9, Darien resident Tighe Sullivan, 51, was one of two people killed in a helicopter crash in Pennsylvania. Pilot William Ellsworth, 52, of Califon, N.J. also was killed in the crash, and passenger Stephen Barral of Bernardsville, N.J. sustained injuries but survived.
The helicopter took off from Elmira, N.Y. following a golf outing, according to Mount Pocono Regional Police. It dropped one passenger off at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport before encountering bad weather. Ellsworth was attempting to land the helicopter at Mount Pocono Airport when it crashed.
Sullivan, a Darien resident of 17 years, was a founder, partner and chief operating officer of Fraser Sullivan Investment Management in New York City. He graduated from Colgate University and began his career with Chase Manhattan in 1983.
Sullivan is survived by his wife Callie, a former Darien selectman and State House of Representatives candidate, as well as his children Jessie, Lila and Tiger. In December, Darien teens paid tribute to Sullivan by donating the proceeds from their annual Wrap Up to the Silver Bay YMCA in his honor.
