On July 4, Amelia McCann, 45, drowned in her backyard pool at her Mansfield Place home. Police responded to a 911 call around 10 a.m. saying that a woman was submerged in her pool. Emergency crews arrived and tried to revive her with CPR, but were unsuccessful. She was taken to Stamford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s office later determined that the cause of death was accidental drowning. The autopsy revealed no other injuries or signs of foul play.

McCann moved into the house a couple years ago with her husband and three children. Neighbors said the pool had opened less than a month before the drowning. McCann was described by her family as “an intensely committed mom, loving wife and fiercely loyal friend” with “quick wit and gentle humor.”
