FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Power outages continued to climb Monday night in Fairfield County as Hurricane Sandy passed through the area.

Almost half a million customers are without power after outages continued to spike.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Power outages jumped in Fairfield County as strong winds whipped through the area.

Tens of thousands of customers are without power after many outage numbers doubled or tripled since the last update.

Update, 6:30 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Power outages are climbing in Fairfield County as Hurricane Sandy brings its strongest winds into the region. 

Tens of thousands of customers were in the dark Monday afternoon. Outages skyrocketed in many town three to five times higher from the previous update a bit after 6 p.m.

Update, 4:30 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Power outages continue to rise in parts of Fairfield County while some customers have gotten their power back as Hurricane Sandy drives high winds into the region. 

More than 1,700 customers were in the dark in New Canaan and 1,525 were in the dark in Wilton. More than 3,400 in Stamford remained without power, a drop from earlier in the day. Power outages also fell slightly in Weston and Westport.

Update, 3:35 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Hurricane Sandy is leaving more of Fairfield County in the dark, with a surge in outages reported in areas like Westport and Wilton. 

More than 4,000 customers had lost power in Stamford,while 1,500 were out in Greenwich. More than 1,300 were out in Wilton and more than 1,100 customers had lost power in Weston.

Update, 2:15 p.m. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — More than 700 customers in Wilton are now without power as Hurricane Sandy brings stronger guests into Fairfield County. 

More than 1,100 customers in Weston are in the dark along with 700 customers in Greenwich and 480 in Fairfield.

Update, 12:15 p.m. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — More than 1,100 customers in Weston — almost a third of the town — had lost power as of noon Monday. 

Outages were low but creeping up throughout Fairfield County, with about 1,400 customers out in Norwalk and 430 out in Greenwich.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Residents across Fairfield County were beginning to lose power Monday morning with the worst of Hurricane Sandy still ahead. 

The most outages at 11:15 a.m. were in Norwalk, where more than 1,600 customers had lost power. More than 350 customers had lost power in Greenwich and 300 were out in Weston. 

The highest winds are expected to hit the region from about noon to midnight. Of greatest concern is the storm expected during the high tides at noon and midnight in Fairfield County communities along Long Island Sound.
