Weston Man Arrested After Tailgating Darien Cop

DARIEN, Conn. – Christian Russell, 25, of Weston was arrested after following a police car a little too closely early Thursday morning. An officer was traveling on Hoyt Street at 1:27 a.m. when he saw Russell's 2005 Audi TT approaching very rapidly in his rearview mirror. The officer pulled over to let Russell pass, and clocked him going 47 mph in a 30 mph zone. He stopped Russell and immediately detected the strong odors of marijuana and alcohol.

Russell failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. While performing an inventory of Russell's car, police found a one-hitter pipe that was still hot to the touch and contained marijuana residue. Russell was charged with DWI, speeding and possession of paraphernalia. He posted a $250 bond and will go to court August 8.

Police believe somebody tried to break into a house on Gideon Lane on Tuesday, July 26. The residents left the house at noon and returned at 3:30 p.m. to find a pane of glass in the rear sliding door had been smashed and there were pry marks on the door. Police said that nobody entered the house, and nothing had been taken.

A family reported on Tuesday, July 26 that somebody had robbed their home while they were on vacation. The family was in Italy from July 3 through July 9. They returned to find a number of items were missing, including rings, earrings, a watch and some coins. The items were worth a total of $5,755.
