But not one passenger confronted the attacker, who punched, stabbed 30 or 40 times, and kicked Sutherland, according to police documents and the Washington Post.

Jasper Spires, 18, has been charged with homicide in the brutal stabbing death. Police believe Spires, who is 5-foot-5 and weighs 125 pounds, was on drugs when he committed the crime, the Post said.

The Post details the witness accounts of the crime, including the actions of a couple who went for help and tended to Sutherland. What would you have done to help?
